From The Director: After being on a couple of Chapter rides and attending two gatherings in July, I paid attention to how much fun people were having. The gathering in Wisconsin Rapids was truly how GWRRA intended it to be. Everyone was talking to each other and laughing and just having a good time. And guess what, no one asked about official GWRRA related matters.
Like I originally stated, I was skeptical of how this new format was going to work, and to my surprise I think we have caught on to what is important. To me it is to get acquainted with my fellow Goldwingers and listen to them telling me about their trips and experiences they have had riding their motorcycle. That is why we joined GWRRA.
Ask yourself, why did I (we) join GWRRA? Was it for all the educational classes that are provided free of charge? Was it for the Gold Book and Wing World magazine that you receive once you pay your subscription? Whatever your reason may be, there is no incorrect reason why you wanted to join GWRRA.
When we first got back into motorcycling we had a Yamaha Venture and did most of our riding for two years by ourselves. There wasn’t anyone that we knew that we could talk to or relate to that had the same interest that we did. After a couple of years, we bought our first Goldwing and in the spring of the following year we decided to join GWRRA. The main reason is we wanted to learn from other riders, not only Goldwinger’s but motorcycle enthusiasts that have the same interests as we do.
When we joined we didn’t know anything about the Rider Education or Membership Enhancement programs and what they offered, which came along with your membership - what a bonus.
We have been on a lot of different rides with our Chapter since we joined along with rides that were led by other Members throughout the District. This in turn afforded us the opportunity to ride on many roads that we would have never even considered taking. By going on these rides with different Members throughout the District and our Chapter we have formed many new friends that will last a life time.
Some of you know that we have purchased a new Goldwing along with Al and Barb Shruck. At our gatherings you can be sure some time before we leave we will sit and talk and compare notes about our experience on the motorcycle. If it wasn’t for GWRRA and our Chapter being here we wouldn’t have even met.
My whole point is we learn from each other, whether it’s sharing your experience while on vacation to the Black Hills of South Dakota or talking to your fellow Members about your motorcycle. We form a bond that can be a great experience if we just talk and forget about all the negative things. I ask you, isn’t that why you joined, to get the best experience possible out of GWRRA and gather the most information regarding how your motorcycle operates along with getting to know the best roads to go on. It is the main reason we joined this great organization.
We have some information from Al and Barb on the Color Ride scheduled for September 29-30. There are 15 rooms being held under GWRRA Chapter K at the Snow Country Inn in Hurley. Some rooms are two double beds, and some are two queen beds. The room charge is $59.95 plus tax for 2-4 people in a room.
